Teacher Biography

Welcome to music class!  I am Mrs. Jeanni Highlander, and I have completed 29 wonderful years of teaching elementary school music with Chattanooga Public Schools and with Hamilton County Schools.  This is the start of my 12th year at Ganns-Middle Valley Elementary School.  I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Grades K-12 Music Education and also in Grades 1-8 Elementary Education -  both from UTC, and a Master of Arts in Education Degree (with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction) from Tusculum College.  I truly love my job!  Learning about and creating all types of music with students is my joy.  My husband of 30 years is also a teacher (Math and Science at Soddy Daisy High School) and we have 2 children - a 19 year old daughter who is beginning her 2nd year of college at UTC studying chemical engineering, and a 24 year old son who has just graduated UTC with a degree in civil engineering.  We are a very musical family - and my hope is that your family will be musical as well.

Students at Ganns-Middle Valley Elementary have a general music class once per week for 45 minutes.  We also have a 4th Grade Beginning Hand Bell Ensemble, a 5th Grade Intermediate Hand Bell Ensemble, and an auditioned 5th Grade Chorus.  Every grade level has an opportunity to perform once per year at a P.T.A. meeting.  Please check this web-site for details of all performances as the school year progresses.

I hope you have a great year ahead at GMVE!  Keep singing!  Mrs. "H."
